Le vétérinaire peut être sollicité pour induire des chaleurs chez des chiennes reproductrices notamment pour rationaliser le moment de la mise à la reproduction ou lors de certaines situations pathologiques (anœstrus prolongé). A l’heure actuelle, deux molécules sont utilisées en France pour cela : la desloréline et la cabergoline.
La desloréline sous forme d’implant induit des chaleurs rapidement après administration, mais des effets secondaires majeurs (pour la santé de la chienne ont été observés après traitement, même si ceux-ci semblent rares.
Le traitement avec de la cabergoline par voie orale peut être très long, donc coûteux chez certaines chiennes, mais sans risque majeur pour l’animal.
Ces deux molécules ont une bonne efficacité et permettent d’atteindre des performances de reproduction comparables à celles de cycles spontanés. Néanmoins, cette efficacité est plus élevée si l’induction a lieu en anœstrus tardif.

ESTRUS INDUCTION IN THE BITCH

In some pathological circumstances, in case of a lack of pregnancy due to bad management of mating or in case of financial problem of the breeder, a veterinarian may be asked to induce the estrus cycle in the bitch. Actually, two molecules are used for heat induction in France: deslorelin and cabergoline. The first one, in form of subcutaneous implant induces the heat rapidly after the implant administration, although some major sides effects have been observed in rare cases. The treatment with cabergoline administrated orally can be very long and thus expensive in some bitches; however, without any major risk for the bitch. Both protocols of estrus induction are of good efficacy giving the pregnancy and whelping rates as well as litter size comparable to those obtained in spontaneous estrus cycles. However, this efficacy is higher if the induction takes place in the late anestrus.
